Drawing Me Closer

I have been drawing all over the place, through several career incarnations, in animation, storyboarding, Screenprinting, parenting – never far from a pencil wielding its powers to jot down a scene, explain ideas, organise information!

In the last few years I’ve chosen to focus on children’s book illustration and here I find myself digging deeper and deeper into the wonderful possibilities of bringing stories, people and places to life, for young minds and their readers.

The more i delve into the picture book world, I’m getting an increased sense of coming home, finding fragments of what I was always looking for through past careers – and bringing all the life experience and encounters I’ve gathered back to the golden hour of bedtime reading.

I read three books (minimum) a night to my girls when they were little, all cuddled up being absorbed in the pages, the drawings the ideas. Relishing the variety and quality of all the books, borrowed, owned, worn out, defaced!

As I continue to evolve along the illustration path, my hope is I will be able to contribute a title or two to future bookcases, and bring some more hand drawn wonder and magic to bedtime.
