Welcome to my new website, my illustration shop window is up and running!
I’ve been busy this year, really digging into my abilities, exploring my drawing potential and putting together my offering as an illustrator.

The Name

First things first though – my name! I was born Sandra Ensby and then took my husbands name when I married becoming Sandra Salter. We created a business together called Salty’s Studio. After a while I had a feeling my creative work needed to develop outside of the business so I created a name to work under which felt freer and not tied to the Salty’s style.

I picked my granny’s first name Cecily (she went my her middle name, so in fact it was a spare family name) and then Salt on the end. So I’m still linked to my history, and my children – who are little Salters.

It’s a bit confusing at times having a trail of names, but as I stick with this it’s settling more and I hope will be with me for the duration!

Several Incarnations

I have had several incarnations in creative industries, firstly a childhood of ballet and dance, which then evolved into animation at art school. My younger adult years I spent in London working in the animation industry, and then as parenthood kicked in, I taught myself to screen print. This led me into the world of creating products and learning about manufacturing and retail.

It has been a fascinating journey from childhood to parenthood and brushing through the various industries along the way from making short films to running a shop. I have gleaned all manner of observations and skills. But I just needed to go a bit further to scratch an itch, to uncover what I suspect is my true calling, and that is where the illustration comes in.

Onwards

So here I am now relaunching myself. I’m learning to draw the world as i see it and crafting it into, I hope, wondrous children’s books. It’s early days but the new era has certainly begun for Cecily Salt.
